The history of the breed

The Rhodesian Ridgeback has a long history, dating back to the 16th century, & originally bred from 5 breeds in Rhodesia, South Africa (now Zimbabwe).  Among them, the Greyhound,  Great Dane, & the Hottentot Wild Hunting Dog, where the ridge comes from. Often called Lion Hounds, they are more protector than hunter.
